For sale great sounding tube CD player and USB digital to analog converter based on Wolfson 8740 DAC chip. For a transport and a housing... A lovely preserved robust Sony CD player. Which originally had a mediocre DAC chip unsuitable for any upgrades. It has two switchable inputs using a neatly fitted button on the front fascia.
USB input - DAC board with XMOS chip (24bit enabled) (drivers for MS Windows provided) Due to the Wolfson's 8740 specification, the maximum signal resolution is 24 bit with 192kHz sampling rate. In both modes, the output signal (using I2S protocol) goes to the dedicated valve output stage. From the DAC chip (after passive I/U conversion - 1% tolerance resistors in the circuit). The signal feeds one Tesla ECC88 dual triode - this can be easily replaced/upgraded with the other tubes of the same type. Additionally, most capacitors around DAC chips has been upgraded to a quality brand new units, most important ones to the OS-CONS.Sounds great - both CD playback and USB hi res files. Which is a great fun seeing an old CD player with a'Bi-Polar' personality. After the modification, it has been auditioned for no more than 10 hours. Due to nature of my work I can post only twice a week - thanks for understanding.
